DALLAS, Texas (February 25, 2026) – As McKinney prepares to host its inaugural half marathon, the city is poised for more than race day. The McKinney Historic Half Presented by BMW represents the strength of a city in motion and the stories that fuel it.
That determination lives in 16-year-old Zion from Frisco, Texas. A competitive sprinter, Zion's ambitions extend well beyond the starting blocks. Before he could chase those goals at full speed, a serious injury forced him off the track. With expert care from Scottish Rite for Children, he began the disciplined work of recovery, rebuilding strength and ultimately reclaiming his stride.
When he returned to the track, he did so with renewed purpose, embracing Scottish Rite's Athlete Development program. Philip L. Wilson, M.D., Zion's pediatric orthopedic surgeon, says Zion's journey is a powerful example of what is possible when expert care meets unwavering commitment.
Now, as runners across the region train for the inaugural event on March 28, 2026, The McKinney Historic Half has introduced Zion as its Junior Race Director, and has named Scottish Rite for Children its official charitable partner, extending a meaningful collaboration first forged through the BMW Dallas Marathon.
Since naming a primary beneficiary in 1997, the Dallas White Rock Marathon has donated nearly $5 million to Scottish Rite for Children. Proceeds from the McKinney Historic Half Presented by BMW will also benefit Scottish Rite. Participants who wish to fundraise in honor of Zion or other patients can contribute through donations.
"The McKinney Historic Half shows how sport and community can create lasting impact," said Jason Schuchard, President of the Dallas White Rock Marathon. "Through our partnership with Scottish Rite for Children, we're proud to share stories like Zion's."
Registration for the McKinney Historic Half Marathon, 5K and Kid's 100M Dash is open now.
